A site where I get to complain about music I don't like.
I felt bad for this. In my The Downward Spiral review, I put in a note about the fact that I did not own “Heresy”. Well now, I’ve decided to finish the review after a week, with a short text review.
3. Heresy
In “Heresy”, the main character of the story rejects god, with one line of the chorus being a repetition of “God is dead.” This is a far cry from when “God Only Knows” couldn’t get airplay for saying god in the chorus. Now we have quoting of Friedrich Nietzsche right in the chorus. Oh, how the times have changed. Now, for the music itself. Starting off with a synth bass, the drums come slamming in with heavy bass and snare, soon adding hi-hat and Trent Reznor’s high pitched whisper singing, which oddly reminds me of Bowie. This soon includes some spoken words underneath, until the chorus comes in, with lots of distortion and Reznor screaming of the death of god. The song eventually builds up to a current of noise, closing off the track. Overall, a pretty good song, but not up to “Ruiner” or “Hurt” quality.
I apologize for the short article, but I wanted to finish the review of the album. And now, I’m off to protest against some soup, or something.
